We all have to grow up one day, but at what point, we must accept that. I don’t know. I create images that express my feelings toward the transitional stages of life. Through digital photography, particularly self-portraiture, I explore themes of curiosity, youth, and resistance.

As both the subject and director, I pose in ways that dramatize themes of curiosity and youth. My chosen environments are scenic locations within my quaint rural hometown, which were integral to my childhood. These places are within a three-mile radius of my childhood home.

I use varying natural and artificial light integrated with photographic techniques such as compositing and multiple exposures to create scenes reminiscent of dreams—or even nightmares. When processing my images, I digitally enhance the color, highlights, and shadows to create compositions with an extreme tonal range. By positioning myself in unorthodox places amidst postcard-perfect views, I challenge viewers to engage more deeply with my images.

As you look closer into the landscapes, I hide in a window or behind a golden tuft of grass. I glare back at you with somber facial expressions contradicting my idyllic surroundings, revealing my secret: I don’t want to grow up.
